Tremont St. Singles Mixers

Session A, ages 35+: 6:30-8pm (doors at 6:15) sponsored by NExT
Session B, ages 21-39: 8:30-10:00pm (doors at 8:15) sponsored by 20s&30s
Ages 35-39 attend both sessions at no additional charge!

Our singles mixers are now semi-annual by popular demand:

  • Tu B'Av, the fifteenth (or full moon) of the month of Av, is traditionally considered a matchmaking occasion and/or an auspicious time for meeting one's beloved. (August)
  • Tu B'Shvat, the fifteenth (or full moon) of the month of Shvat, is known as the New Year of the Trees. However, there are also traditions linking it with Tu B'Av as a sort of "Jewish Valentine's Day". (January/February)
Help us make these traditions a reality! We'll provide kosher wine and cheese, other snacks and beverages, some informal icebreaking activities, and a relaxed environment for mingling. The rest is up to you.

How It Works

  1. When you hear about the mixer, pre-register on-line. (You can register in person at the mixer too, but things will go faster if you pre-register.)
  2. On arrival, each person gets an ID number on their nametag, and a request card.
  3. As you mingle throughout the evening, for anyone you'd like to get to know better, write down their ID # and their first name on your request card.
  4. When the evening is over, TURN IN YOUR REQUEST CARD before you leave!
  5. We'll tabulate the results, and if anyone you requested also requests you, you have a match!
  6. We'll send you the contact info of all your matches (usually within a week), and send yours to them. The rest is up to you.

Details

Date: Please see our 20s&30s Calendar or NExT calendar for the next upcoming mixer date.

Time: Session A (ages 35+) will be 6:30-8pm. At 8pm, we will clear and reset the room for Session B (ages 21-39), 8:30-10:00pm. Ages 35-39 are encouraged to stick around and attend both sessions at no additional charge.

Dress: Those familiar with our community know that Tremont St. is a pretty casual environment. However, as Mom would say, it never hurts to look your best! White clothing is particularly traditional for Tu B'Av, and we encourage this.

Cost: $15 regular admission, $10 full-time students, and FREE for dues paid TBS members, with your online registration by 12noon on the Thursday prior to the mixer. The at-door prices are: $20 regular admission, $15 full-time students, and $5 for dues paid TBS members.

Signup: You MUST complete the online registration form in order to qualify for the advance-RSVP rate. (Emailing your RSVP does not count for this event.) To speed it up even more, prepay your admission via PayPal (you'll get the link upon succesful completion of registration; prepayment is nonrefundable, but may be transferred).

And for all you non-singles out there...

If this event does not apply to you, (a) mazal tov! (b) PLEASE pass the information along to your Boston-area single Jewish friends. The more people we get, the better it is for everyone. (c) We need non-single volunteers to help staff the mixer! Event setup starts at 4:45pm. Email mixer-info { at } tremontstreetshul.org if you'd like to help out, even for an hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where can I PARK? Our shul has no parking lot -- it was built before there were cars! Fortunately, on Sundays, Cambridge permit restrictions on street parking are lifted (but please still be careful not to block neighbors's driveways). For Saturday parking recommendations near the shul, as well as public transit directions via Central Square, see the TBS directions page.
  • How many people are coming? What's the gender balance? On average, we get 75-100 participants between the two sessions, and a pretty even gender split. Of course, the more people we get, the better it will be for everyone. Please forward this to any and all of your single Jewish friends—you never know what could happen!
  • Yeah, but this is only for straight folks, right? Unlike most dating events, we do not segregate based on gender. You can write down anyone who interests you. If (and only if) that person writes you down too, we'll connect you.
  • Do I have to be Jewish to attend? While we don't check anyone's certification at the door, we do request that all participants be Jewish-identified.
  • Does this really work? So far, we average at least one confirmed successful long-term match from each mixer, with four marriages to date. For a crowd of about 100 people, we think that’s pretty good. And that’s only the ones we know about! This year, it could be you—but only if you attend!
